Marvel Announce Edible Deadpool Comic

In an email sent to retailers this week Marcel EIC Joe Quesada announced that Marvel would be breaking new ground in 2015 by releasing an edible comic book!

The comic featuring the recently deceased character of Deadpool is expected to be made from a special corn starch paper with soy based ink. And. Wait for it… Flavoured like a chimichanga!

DEADPOOL’S TASTY CHIMICHANGA CHALLENGE -EAT ME EDITION one shot comic is due for release in July and will be revealed to the public at one of the conventions in this year’s US summer.

Marvel have apparently been working on this for quite some time to make sure the product can work both as a fun comic and a tasty snack.

Perhaps a clue to how long this has been planned, the story has been specially created by previous creators that finished on the book over a year ago, Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn with art by Tony Moore and special edible pinups by Rob Liefeld!

The timing of this announcement is perfectly timed following last week’s reveal of the costume that Ryan Reynolds will be wearing in the upcoming Deadpool movie.

Following the popularity of last year’s scratch n sniff Harley Quinn comic from DC, Marvel are keen to up the ante. And Deadpool is the comic that Marvel like using for this one-upmanship. When DC produced 3D motion covers for their New52 titles, Marvel produced a 1:52 variant cover edition of Deadpool that had a 3D motion cover.

Don’t worry if you are on a diet! The comic will be released in both an edible version and a paper version for the people that don’t want to eat their comic.

We believe we won’t have any trouble importing the comic (but we are checking with customs) and Marvel have implied this comic will be available at an affordable price (we’re expecting about $AU 10)  in whatever quantities we pre-order. But they will not be warehousing it and we won’t be over ordering it (we don’t want them in our back issue bins), so first in best dressed.

We’ll have more details when we get them, but we are taking orders now, so…

HAPPY APRIL FOOL’S DAY.
