GLAAD announces nominees for outstanding comic
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has announced nominees for its 23rd annual Media Awards.

They have awards for all forms of media from TV shows to blogs and magazines. But most importantly...

yep, you guessed it, COMICS! Or OUTSTANDING COMIC BOOK to be precise.

Here are the nominees:

Avengers: The Children's Crusade by Allan Heinberg, Marvel

Batwoman by J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman, DC Comics

Secret Six by Gail Simone, DC Comics

Veronica Presents: Kevin Keller by Dan Parent, Archie Comics

X-Factor by Peter David, Marvel Comics

The awards will be announced in a series of ceremonies all over the USA in March, April and June. Start your work sweep, which title is your pick for winner? Here's a tip - X-Factor won last year, if that helps or hinders this year remains to be seen.
 
DC Comics unveils new logo officially
The many colours of the new DC logo
It seem like just yesterday that DC unveiled the swirl logo that is at the top of every New52 book. It was actually about seven years ago.

Now they have unveiled a brand new logo over at Fast Company and on their blog The Source.
The big reveal teased at the way the logo will get tweaked for various properties... including WATCHMEN!

The logo will start showing up on comics in March, so get used to it.

Vertigo Comics - you know, the guys and girls behind Hellblazer, Y the Last Man, Sandman, Transmetropolitan, Fables, The Unwritten and heaps more of the most cutting edge comics not suitable for the little ones - have announced that in November they will be publishing the graphic novel adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s international sensation THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO!

We don't have any catalog details for this book yet so stay tuned for when we make the announcement that we can start taking pre-orders.

DC Announces second wave of the New 52
Batman Inc returnsLike all good things, not every title of the New 52 could last forever.
So DC are bringing six titles to a close at issue #8.

But fret not, there are six new titles riding in to fill hearts with anticipation and your standing order drawer with comics!

While it is always sad to see series we enjoy draw to a close we must admit that we are dead excited about these new titles! Not only do we get to see Australia's own Nicola Scott back on a regular monthly super hero book, we get to see more of Morrison's Batman, the return of Power Girl, The Unkown soldier and a great new version of a book that is essentially Ben 10 for adults!

Mark Millar is hitting 2012 HARD!
Supercrooks starts in March Comic Book Resources is reporting about Mark Millar's grand comic book plans for 2012.

Mark Millar has had some serious success creating new comics series recently, Wanted, Kick-Ass, Nemesis, Superior, and is planning on getting much more serious this year.

Secret Service project with Dave Gibbons in February
Supercrooks with Leinil Francis Yu starts in March
Hit Girl spins out from Kick-Ass in August

There is also Nemesis 2 sequel series with Steve McNiven and a yet to be announced series with Frank Quitely.

So start a standing order for Secret Service and Supercrooks NOW!
 
Walt Simonson returns to Marvel Comics in April!
Avengers #25 in April In breaking news Marvel have announced that Walt Simonson will be returning to the House of Ideas in April for a run on The Avengers.

Reports at Bleeding Cool, Newsarama and Comic Book Resources point out that this issue will tie in directly to the Avengers VS X-Men event and will be last Avengers story arc written by superstar writer Brian Michael Bendis.
