Brian Michael Bendis brings the Wonder to DC Comics

Wonder Comics by Brian Michael Bendis

Brian Michael Bendis was a name synonymous with Marvel Comics for over a decade.
He oversaw the Avengers in the era that inspired the movies, he created the Ultimate Universe, including Miles Morales who will be making his big screen debut this year in Into the Spider-Verse.

And, then he was done.
He’s now at DC Comics, writing Superman comics that keep selling out. And DC are looking after him. They’ve given him his own imprint to print his creator owned Mature Readers projects under the Jinxworld banner. And now they’ve given him oversight of a new DC superhero imprint, Wonder Comics!

Revealed at New York Comic-Con this week it looks like DC want Bendis to breath a little “Ultimate Spider-Man” into the DC Universe. The characters and titles attached all seem to be under utilised or forgotten teenage heroes, with a few favourites thrown in.

Dial H for Hero, The Wonder Twins, Impulse, Superboy, Robin, Young Justice and more!

“These characters mean a lot to each other personally. Some of them not in this continuity, so they’re gonna meet each other for the first time,” Bendis told the audience during Jim Lee and Dan DiDio’s first DC panel at NYCC 2018. He then joked about how he’s been excited about bringing Conner Kent back for quite some time.

“People have been asking for them over and over again,” DiDio added. “But we don’t want to bring them back and have nothing to do with them. It wasn’t until Brian came back and said he wanted to do Young Justice that we decided it was time to bring them back.”

The line will be anchored by the return of Impulse (Bart Allen) and Superboy (Conner Kent), teaming up with Robin (Tim Drake) as the nucleus of an all-new…

YOUNG JUSTICE, which Bendis will write with art by his ACTION COMICS partner in crime, Patrick Gleason.

As a tease for his Saturday evening spotlight panel, Bendis also announced the rest of the first wave of titles:

WONDER TWINS, written by Mark Russell (THE FLINTSTONES, EXIT STAGE LEFT: THE SNAGGLEPUSS CHRONICLES, DC Black Label’s SECOND SON) with art by Stephen Byrne (JUSTICE LEAGUE/POWER RANGERS)
